December Special Offering
Pastor’s Emergency Fund
This fund is the way we share with members of the congregation and help people in need and is administered by the pastor. We have helped children buy school supplies and uniforms; we have assisted with paying rent, groceries and utilities; we have helped cover the costs of memorial services; we even help people ride public transportation to a job interview. Please ask anyone who has a need to
speak with the pastor. The people we help are very grateful for your continued generosity.
November Achievement and Appreciation Award
November Achievement and Appreciation Award is in memory of Iona Scott Egozi.  We celebrate Iona’s life for her membership and ministry since the 1960′s.  Iona was truly Christ-like.  During numerous Advents and since the birth of our Lord and Savior in 0 A.D. Iona Scott Egozi’s Christian spirit and religious faith expressed through discipleship permeated the United Church of Hyde Park.  Most recently among many other contributions to UCHP, she taught her UCHP Love Class, the Word, with great conviction and faith before Sunday Services. Her Presbyterian faith transcended the beginning of United Church of Hyde Park as the Presbyterian denomination first founded UCHP in 1850 – 19th century.  Iona’s Christian faith and all Christian faith permeated Abraham Lincoln’s decision to sign the Emancipation Proclamation in the 1860′s – 19th century that preempted the Civil War, about a decade after UCHP was founded. Iona’s prayer and righteousness for equal rights supported the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960′s – 20th century.  Iona is truly an icon of the Christian faith and we will remember her timeless faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and God our Father Almighty.
Church Conference, United Methodist Church – December 9Each year the United Methodist Church checks in with us one way or another. This year our church is hosting a church conference with the Rev. Barbara Page Kell representing our District Superintendent on Monday, December 9 at 7:00 in Ray Fellowship Hall. This will be a time of worship, ministry celebration, reports and holy conferencing. Everyone in the church is invited to participate. For the holy conferencing portion of the meeting our District Superintendent has asked that we bring printed pictures that answer the question, “Who is my neighbor?”.
Please bring pictures of people or places that will be used to create a display.
Again this Christmas we will purchase poinsettias to give to those in our congregation who are shut-ins. These will decorate the sanctuary prior to Christmas.  After the service on December 22th they will be delivered to our shut-ins. Contributions to the fund should be designated as a special offering for “Poinsettias” and put into the offering plate. Make checks payable to the United Church of Hyde Park and write “Poinsettia” on the memo line. The cost for one lily is estimated to be $7.
BUNDLE UP!  We’re going for hot cocoa and Christmas cheer!
